Peer support for postpartum psychosis in MorpethWe have a partnership with Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust to provide peer support for women experiencing postpartum psychosis (PP), or other manic/psychotic illnesses around the perinatal period.

Our peer support facilitator, together with sessional peer support workers, provide peer support to inpatients at Beadnell Mother and Baby Unit in Morpeth. We support women and families at the ward and signpost to other local services if your experience is not PP (or a manic/psychotic illness). We also offer a monthly APP café group for women discharged from the ward after experiencing PP (or a manic/psychotic illness), together with anyone affected by PP - whether they are still in contact with NHS services or not. The cafe groups are organised by the peer support team and attended by women at different stages of recovery, together with local trained peer support volunteers. Find out more about when they are held on our regularly updated peer support page here.

There is more information about this project in our downloadable PDF here.

If you have accessed APP peer support in the region, we would appreciate any feedback you would be willing to give by completing our short online survey here. Thank you.
